Course Overview
On successful completion of this apprenticeship you will meet the statutory requirements for working as a pharmacy assistant.
Edexcel Level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Services Skills (NVQ) (QCF) – 500/9351/4;
Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science (QCF) – 500/9579/1
Students without Grade C in Maths and English or Level 2 in Essential skills Literacy or Numeracy, will be required to complete Level 2 in Essential skills Literacy or Numeracy as part of the apprenticeship.
For this framework, the apprentice is required to complete the Pharmacy specific ERR workbook provided by Skills for Health
Pharmacy assistant, including:
• Assisting with the provision of pharmacy services
• Assisting with the sale of medicines and products
• Receiving prescriptions from individuals
• Assembling and, assisting with the issuing of, prescribed items
• Assisting with the manufacture and assembly of medicinal products

Course Modules
Pearson Edexcel Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills
Mandatory Units:
1 Assist with the provision of a pharmacy service to meet individuals’ needs
2 Ensure your own Actions Reduce risks to Health and Safety
3 Contribute to the effectiveness of teams
Optional Units (to give a total minimum of 12 credits):
4 Assist in the sale of medicines and products
5 Assemble prescribed items
6 Assist in the Issuing of Pharmaceutical Stock
7 Assist in the manufacture and assembly of medicinal products
8 Prepare aseptic products
9 Prepare documentation, materials, components and other items for the preparation of aseptic products
10 Assist in the preparation of documentation, materials and other items for manufacture and assembly of medicinal products
11 Assist in the issuing of prescribed items
12 Receive prescriptions from individuals
13 Receive Pharmaceutical Stock
14 Maintain pharmaceutical stock
15 Undertake an in-process accuracy check of assembled prescribed items prior to the final accuracy check
16 Order Routine Pharmaceutical Stock
Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science

1 Communicating with Pharmacy Customers
2 Law, Regulation, Health and Safety in Pharmacy
3 Working in the Pharmacy Team

4 Ordering and Issuing Stock in the Pharmacy
5 Receiving, Storing and Maintaining Stock in the Pharmacy
6 Preparing for and Manufacture of Aseptic Products
7 Assisting in the Preparation, Manufacture and Assembly of Medicinal Products
8 Selling Over the Counter Medicines in the Pharmacy
9 Processing a Prescription
10 Assemble Prescriptions Safely

In the longer term, learners can progress to a role of trainee Pharmacy Technician, within the sector.
Please note: the entry requirements for L3 Pharmacy Services include 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Maths and Science. Equivalent qualifications will be considered individually.
