The Level 2 Plumbing Apprenticeship is a comprehensive training program designed for individuals who have completed GCSEs and are pursuing a career in plumbing and heating. . Apprentices will learn how to install, maintain and repair plumbing systems in both residential and commercial environments.

Why Study This Course

This course is aimed at 16 year olds who have just left school having obtained their GCSE's.  The course combines practical, hands-on experience with theoretical knowledge to equip apprentices with the skills needed to become fully qualified plumbers.

Students will learn and develop skills in relation to 1st and 2nd fix installations for domestic and commercial fitouts.  They will also learn about copper pipe work, practical plumbing, iron pipe work, hot and cold water systems and central heating installations, bathroom fitouts.


Course Overview

The apprenticeship is delivered through a blend of practical on-the-job training and classroom-based learning. Apprentices will spend most of their time working with an employer, gaining valuable industry experience while attending college or a training provider for theoretical lessons. The course includes assessments, practical tasks and exams to ensure competency in plumbing skills.

 


You will need:

  • a minimum of 5 GCSEs including at least Grade D in English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • to have secured an employer in the trade
  • to undertake a skills aptitude test

Students will be given the opportunity to upgrade their English and Maths to Essential Skills Level 2 or GCSE Grade C if required.

  • Health and Safety in the Plumbing Industry
  • Plumbing Industry Processes, Techniques and Principles
  • Installing and Maintaining Cold Water Pipework Systems
  • Planning and Preparing for the Installation of a Central Heating System
  • Installing Underfloor Heating Systems
  • Installing and Maintaining an Open Vented Hot Water System
  • Sustainability in the Plumbing Industry
  • Installing and Maintaining Sanitary Systems
  • Practical Plumbing Project

Upon completing the Level 2 Plumbing Apprenticeship, apprentices can pursue further qualifications such as Level 3 Plumbing and Heating or specialise in areas like gas safety, advanced heating systems or renewable energy technologies. You may work as domestic or commercial plumber, heating engineers or plumbing supervisors.
