Why Study This Course

This one-year traineeship is ideal for someone who has recently left school and obtained their GCSEs, and wanting to learn and to develop skills to pursue a career in science.

The programme is ideal if you wish to pursue a career in the applied science field or obtain a good foundation knowledge of applied science subjects. The programme blends theoretical knowledge with practical application, providing hands-on experience through workshops and real-world projects.

Project Based Learning will also be a key feature, where you will explore real-world problems and challenges that have been developed with employers.

Developing your wider skills as well as providing you with the technical skills and knowledge in your chosen area, the traineeship will help you to develop a range of transversal skills that are important for employment including:

  • Citizenship;
  • Working with others;
  • Problem solving and decision making;
  • Self-management;
  • Work professionalism;
  • Digital literacy
Course Overview

The Traineeship programme will allow you to achieve a full Level 2 qualification and will comprise the following key elements:

  • A main vocational based qualification
  • Vocational skills development
  • Transversal and digital skills
  • Work placement/Simulation

Learners will also have the opportunity to undertake literacy and numeracy qualifications at Level 2 (may include GCSE qualifications in English and mathematics).

You will need:

  • 4 GCSEs grades D-G, including at least Grade D in Maths and Grade D in English or Essential Skills Level 1 in Literacy & Numeracy

Applicants that have not obtained the above grades may be eligible to enrol as an Introductory Trainee.

Students successfully completing the Level 2 Traineeship can progress to the Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Applied Science  (dependant on achievement) and possible careers within the Forensic, Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy or Science industries.
