Why Study This Course

This one-year exam based horticultural theory course delivered via blended learning. You will have access to online course material including pre-recorded lectures, live online classes delivered via Microsoft Teams, and you will also have opportunities to take part in face to face classes on our Holywood Horticulture Campus.

You will need significant experience of gardening and some background plant knowledge, either professionally or in your own garden.  You will also need access to appropriate IT equipment to take part in online learning and classes, a reasonable level of IT literacy to navigate the online classroom and a good standard of written English.

  • Unit 1: Plant Science 1, Plant Health, Plant Nutrition, Plant Specification
  • Unit 2: Plant Science II, Planting Styles, Horticulture and Society, Biodiversity

You already have significant experience in gardening, and you want to study part time to attain an accredited qualification to support your career development and develop a deeper knowledge of Horticulture.

This qualification allows learners to develop a level of plant knowledge deemed essential by the horticultural industries. It equips learners with the knowledge and understanding to progress to employment within the horticultural sector. It assesses the knowledge of the scientific principles underpinning horticultural practices and supports career development for those already working in the profession.

From the RHS Level 2 Certificate you can progress to any of our other Level 2 courses, such as Growing Organic Fruit and Veg or Garden Design.
