Course Overview

This is a 2 year programme.  You will need an employer before you enrol as you will attend work for 4 days each week, and college for 1 day each week. 

The mode of delivery for this programme is a mixture of practical and theory.  You will receive the majority of the hands-on training while in employment whereas college will focus on the theory side more.

 

You will need:

  • an employer AND
  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including at least Grade F in English and Maths. However to help you succeed on the course it is preferable if you have a minimum of Grade D in Maths and English

YEAR 1
  • Health and Safety
  • Conform to productive work practices
  • Move Handle or store resources
  • Operate Plant or Machinery for Non-operational maintenance activities
  • Inspect Plant or machinery for operational serviceability
  • Produce One-off components by bench fitting techniques
  • Thermal Cutting and Joining materials

YEAR 2

  • Service Plant or Machinery
  • Remove and replace plant or machinery components
  • Dismantle and assemble plant or machinery components
  • Undertake functional diagnostics of faults in plant or machinery
  • Install plant or machinery
  • Carry out specific tests on plant or machinery
  • Configure and Hand over plant or machinery

Successful completion of this programme will enable you to progress to employment or the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Construction Plant Maintenance.
