Why Study This Course

This course is designed to take your Hairdressing skills to the next level and prepare you for a career as a Senior Stylist, Hair Company Technician or start your own business or work on a cruise liner. 

There is a hands-on approach to this course where you will gain experience in the College Beauty Salons of Shadeka and Revive and is enriched with opportunities to visit Professional Trade show in Dublin, and receive specialist skills delivered by external companies such as, Wella Advanced colouring techniques, Osmo creative styling and finishing, and business set ups.

In the College Hairdressing Salons of Shadeka, De Courcey and Revive, you will learn how to create a variety of looks using advanced cutting techniques, increase your styling skills and further develop your knowledge and skills in colouring knowledge and techniques.

Course Overview

The course will be delivered on campus 15 hours per week and will consist of:

  • A professional & technical qualification equivalent to a minimum of 2 A-Level's;

  • Employability qualification;

  • Level 2 Essential Skills in numeracy and literacy (if required);

  • A 2-week induction;

  • Professional & Technical skills development;

  • Participation in the college commercial salon;


You will need:

  • to have successfully completed a Level 2 qualification in hairdressing and
  • have a successful outcome at skills tests and interview.

Mature students with experience but not the entry requirements will also be eligible to apply. 

Full-time student you will be required to attend essential skills in Literacy and Numeracy if you do not have a GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths

Students will be required to purchase a uniform and kit to include 2 training heads; staff will provide information at interviews.

Module's studied will include:

  • Creatively style and dress hair
  • Creatively colour and lighten hair
  • Provide client consultation services
  • Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
  • Contribute to the planning implementation and evaluation of promotional activities
  • Hair colour correction services

Assessments will be carried out on paying clients.

Successful completion of this course can lead to employment or further study at Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Techniques and Management Practice in Hairdressing or Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up.
