Level 2 Award in Cyber Security
With cyber-attacks and data leaks becoming more common, it’s important to learn the first steps into keeping both you and your data safe while working online. In this accredited course you will learn how to stay safe online; looking at some of the risks to security and how these can be prevented, how to take beginner cyber security precautions on devices, and how to start managing your own personal and organisational information online.
This is ideal if you wish to develop the skills and knowledge to safely and securely use information technology. This includes, how you can secure your data to reduce the risks of unauthorised access, understanding what data can be collected when browsing online, and identifying physical and virtual risks to your data.
This may be useful if you work in an office environment, run your own business, or are interested in learning how to start securing your data.
On completion of this Course, you should be able to understand the risks associated with the security of information technology systems, how these may be prevented and be able to take appropriate cyber security precautions. You will also understand how to manage your own personal and organisational information online.
- Physical and virtual risks to the security of information and associated preventative strategies.
- Install and update protection software and passwords to minimise unauthorised access to information. For example, how to install antivirus software, and how to assess if your software is up to date.
- Protect information on devices vulnerable to unauthorised access. For example, ensuring all devices that contain sensitive information are secured with a password, etc.
- How online information is used and the management of your own digital footprint. For example, GDPR, how Google Analytics tracks your online activity, and more.
- Manage and protect personal and organisational information online. For example, how to minimise unwanted access on social media accounts, and how to modify and erase personal and organisational information held online.
To complete this course, you will need to have an understanding of the use of information technology.
You will need access to a laptop or computer that you can download and install software onto.
You will need a working microphone and speakers to participate in the classes.
Due to the classes being run online, you will need a reliable internet connection.
You will complete two units:
- Introduction to Cyber Security
- Managing Personal and Organisational information Online
Further opportunities are available to progress to Level 3 and above.
