Why Study This Course

This course is aimed at 16 year olds who have just left school having obtained their GCSE's.  Learners need to be in employment and want to pursue a career in plastering.

This course will give you experience with the plastering equipment.  You will also learn and develop skills in relation to 1st and 2nd fix installations within plastering.  You will learn the skills to fix dry lining and plasterboard products to interiors, produce plaster components, sand and cement screeds and position and secure fibrous plaster components.

Course Overview

The apprenticeship is delivered through a blend of practical on-the-job training and classroom-based learning. Apprentices will spend most of their time working with an employer, gaining valuable industry experience while attending college or a training provider for theoretical lessons. The course includes assessments, practical tasks and exams to ensure competency in Plastering skills.

You will attend the college 1-2 days per week and 2-3 days will be spent on site.

 

You will need:

  • a minimum of 5 GCSEs including at least Grade D in English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • to have secured an employer in the trade
  • to undertake a skills aptitude test

Students will be given the opportunity to upgrade their English and Maths to Essential Skills Level 2 or GCSE Grade C if required.

  • Health and Safety in the Wet Trades Industry
  • Understand Building Construction Materials and Methods
  • Apply Plastering Materials to Interior Surfaces
  • Fix Dry Lining and Plasterboard to Interior Surfaces
  • Laying Sand and Cement Floor Screeds
  • Apply Plastering Materials to Exterior Surfaces

Successful completion of this programme will enable you to progress to the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Plastering.
