Course Overview

The Level 2 Apprenticeship lasts for 2 years.  Students will attend their place of work for 4 days per week and college for 1 day (7 hours) per week.  Learning is of a both a practical nature and theory based.

Combining on-the-job experience with classroom learning, this apprenticeship offers a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a growing industry.

Please note, you must secure your own employer prior to enrolment.


You will need:

  • an employer AND
  • 5 GCSE's (or equivalent) including at least Grade F in English and Maths. However to help you succeed on the course it is preferable if you have a minimum of Grade D in Math and English

  • Applying Mechanical Principles
  • Understand how to Use, Service and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Material Preparation, Shaping and Assembling
  • Carry out Servicing and Maintenance on Land-based Equipment
  • Perform Thermal Joining and Cutting Processes
  • Service and Repair Cooling and Lubrication Systems
  • Service and Repair Electrical Systems on Land-based Equipment

Year 2 Modules

  • Service and Repair Braking Systems on Land-based Equipment
  • Service and Repair Wheeled and Tracked Steering Systems on Land-based Equipment
  • Service and Repair Tyres and tracks on Land based
  • Service and Repair Land-based Cutting and mowing Equipment
  • Service and Repair Pneumatics Systems and Components for Land-based Equipment
  • Service and Repair Electrical Systems on Land-based Equipment
  • Service and Repair Hydraulic Systems and Components on Land-based Equipment
  • Maintain and develop personal performance
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

Successful completion of this programme will enable you to progress to employment or the Level 3 Apprenticeship Land-Based Engineering.
