Level 2 Work Based Apprenticeship in Hospitality (Food & Beverage Service)
This Level 2 Apprenticeship in Food and Beverage Service is delivered in the workplace and enables you to “earn while you learn”. It is ideal if you are aged over 16, employed or starting a new job within the Hospitality and Catering Industry or have moved into a new position within your current company and would like to develop your knowledge and skills and apply them in the workplace.

This Apprenticeship is equivalent to five GCSEs at A*-C and will allow you to gain practical skills and theoretical knowledge in the hospitality industry.
The delivery of this programme will take place within your workplace by a qualified trainer/assessor on a one to one basis or in small groups. Your employer will also support you in achieving this qualification.
As well as providing you with the technical skills and knowledge in food and beverage service, this apprenticeship will help you to develop a range of transferrable skills that are important for employment including:
Working with others;
Problem solving and decision making;
Self-management;
Work professionalism;
Digital literacy
The course will be delivered in your workplace for up to two hours a week, with a combination of face to face and online teaching, and will consist of:
Level 2 Diploma in Food and Beverage Service
Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering
Employment Rights and Responsibilities
Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT (if you don't have GCSE English/Maths/ICT)
You will need:
- to be permanently employed or seeking employment within the Hospitality and Catering Industry and be contracted to work minimum of 21 hours per week
- to be aged over 16
If you do not have GCSE English/Maths at Grade C or above, suitability will also be determined following an assessment of your current level of literacy and numeracy.
- Maintaining a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
- Working effectively as part of a hospitality team
- Give customers a positive impression of self and your organisation
- Maintain food safety when storing, holding and serving food
Optional modules may include:
- Provide a counter and takeaway service
- Serve food at the table
- Serve alcoholic and soft drinks
- Prepare and serve cocktails
- Prepare and clear areas for counter and takeaway service
- Prepare and clear the bar area
- Resolve customer service problems
- Promote additional services or products to customers
- Maintain and deal with payments
As part of your Apprenticeship, you will also be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE Grade C in English, Maths, or ICT/IT or equivalent. For you to be exempt, you will be required to show us original copies of your certificates.
Successful completion will enable you to apply for a promotion to supervisor or manager within the hospitality sector. With your Level 2 qualification, you will gain recognition as a qualified person within the sector. You could also progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Hospitality Supervision & Leadership.
