Level 3 Apprenticeship NI in Hairdressing
The Level 3 Hairdressing apprenticeship is designed to further develop the basic hairdressing knowledge and skills learnt at level 2, enabling you to progress within your career.

We have 3 sessions available for application on this course in Bangor, Downpatrick, Lisburn.
This course is designed for those who work in a salon but want to take their hairdressing skills to the next level and prepare for a career as a senior stylist, hair company technician or start their own business or work on a cruise liner.
There is a hands-on approach to this course where you will develop your skills and knowledge in the college beauty salons of Shadeka and Revive and is enriched with opportunities to visit Professional Trade show in Dublin, and receive specialist skills delivered by external companies such as, Wella Advanced colouring techniques, Osmo creative styling and finishing, and business set ups.
Whilst on the course you will learn how to create a variety of looks using advanced cutting and styling techniques. You will further develop your knowledge and skills in colouring knowledge and application techniques equipping you with the skills required to work in a variety of settings in industry.

At NVQ Level 3 you will develop artistic flair and gain insight into supervisory roles within salons. As well as gaining a recognised qualification you will be employed in a hairdressing salon and take part in specialised training.
Assessments will be carried out on paying clients.
You will need:
- to be employed in a salon AND
- an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Hairdressing AND
- Essential Skills Level 1 in numeracy, literacy and ICT

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and IT if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English, Maths or IT. You will also have the opportunity to complete an appropriate qualification.
You are required to pay for your own uniforms and kits.
You will be required to complete an interview and skills test.
Subjects studied will include:
- Health and safety
- Consultation
- Creatively style and dress hair
- Creatively colour and lighten hair
- Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
- Contribute to the planning implementation and evaluation of promotional activities
- Hair colour correction services
- Creative hairdressing skills
Successful completion of this programme will allow you to progress onto further study at Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Techniques and Management Practice in Hairdressing which could lead to jobs such as teaching or management positions in the hairdressing industry.
You could take up a position as a trainee stylist/stylist in a salon or work abroad or on a cruise liner.
