Level 1 Skills For Life and Work
Skills for Life and Work is a course for students who do not have sufficient or appropriate qualifications to enrol on a Level 2 course. The course is designed to assist in providing students with the skills that are required to support them in employment, and to improve and develop their own personal skills.

We have 4 sessions available for application on this course in Bangor, Downpatrick, Lisburn, Newtownards.
This course is ideal for students who have left school with no formal qualifications, or those who wish to improve their results to access a Level 2 course. The programme offers opportunities to build confidence and develop skills while gaining recognised qualifications in vocational studies, employability and personal development. Students will also study Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT up to Level 2 depending on their initial assessments.
The programme blends classroom-based study with World of Work activities, Work Placement and Duke of Edinburgh/Gaisce/Joint Award.
Year 1 - Focus will be on Essential Skills Literacy, Numeracy and ICT, Employability, Personal Development, Award in Vocational Skills and The Duke of Edinburgh / ioint Gaisce Award. All students will undertake World of Work activities and those who demonstrate they are work ready, will have the opportunity to undertake a work placement.
This is a 2/3 year programme depending on the training credit provided by the careers branch.
Year 2/3 – Students choose a vocational area from Retail, Hospitality Services, Construction Studies, Creative or a broad-based programme along with Literacy, Numeracy and The Duke of Edinburgh / Gaisce Award.

You will either have no formal qualifications, or if you have not attained a GCSE grade F to D or equivalent in Literacy or Mathematics, you are eligible to apply.

Painting and Decorating
Depending on results you may be able to progress to a Level 2 programme at the end of the first year, or at the end of your final year.
