The CCEA GCSE Biology specification provides a broad, coherent and practical course that develops confidence in, and a positive view of, science. It encourages students to appreciate the value of science in their lives and in the wider world around them. Why Study This Course

This is an intensive one year course leading to a GCSE qualification in Biology.

While you will come to class one evening a week, you will be required to do additional work outside of the classroom.

Independent study is an integral part of this course.

There will be an opportunity to study some of the course through online/blended learning, for students with appropriate skills.

Practical science is a key part of this specification, with students carrying out nine prescribed practicals during the course.

Please note: Full Time Access students do not pay tuition fee. They will pay the registration fee only. 

A keen interest in Biology is essential along with an ability to carry out practical work.

GCSE Maths & English  (grade C/4 or above) or equivalent.

Please note, assessments and enrolments will take place in August & September of each year.

Unit 1: Cells, Living Processes and Biodiversity

Unit 2: Body Systems, Genetics, Microorganisms and Health

Unit 3: Practical Skills. 

You wish to achieve a GCSE grade up to A* in Biology.

To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas, scientific techniques and procedures;

To apply knowledge and understanding of and develop skills in scientific ideas, scientific enquiry, techniques and procedures; and

To analyse scientific information and ideas to interpret and evaluate, make judgements and draw conclusions and develop and improve experimental procedures.  

The varied methods of assessment and delivery to included Blended learning, practical work and theory.

On the successful completion you may progress to further science study at Level 3.
