The Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship is a comprehensive training program designed for individuals pursuing a career in Carpentry and Joinery. Why Study This Course

This course is aimed at 16 year olds who have just left school having obtained their GCSE's.  It is ideal if you are in employment and want to pursue a career in Carpentry & Joinery.

This course will give you experience with the C&J equipment due to the practical nature of the course.

You will learn about different types of wood, practical skills, 1st fix joinery, 2nd fix joinery, roofing, use of power tools, measuring, marking out, setting out, cutting and chiselling in workshop joinery, building sites for houses, office blocks, schools, hospitals, retail and hospitality outlets.

This course also allows you to study to upgrade your English and Maths to Essential Skills Level 2 or GCSE Grade C if required.

Course Overview

The apprenticeship is delivered through a blend of practical on-the-job training and classroom-based learning. Apprentices will spend most of their time working with an employer, gaining valuable industry experience while attending college or a training provider for theoretical lessons. The course includes assessments, practical tasks and exams to ensure competency in C&J skills.

This 2 year course is designed to equip students with the skills to develop a career in Carpentry & Joinery. You will attend college 1-2 days per week and 2-3 days will be spent out on site.

You will need:

  • a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including at least Grade D in English and Maths 
  • to have secured an employer in the trade
  • to undertake a skills aptitude test

Units will include:

  • Health, Safety and Welfare in Woodworking Occupations
  • Understanding Construction Methods
  • First and Second Fix Carpentry Techniques
  • Interpreting Construction Drawings and Information
  • Setting, Marking Out and Manufacturing of Joinery Products
  • Maintain and Use Woodworking Hand and Power Tools
  • Practical Woodworking Project

 

 

Successful completion of this course will allow you to apply for roles in the industry or the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Wood Occupations.
