The Level 3 Plumbing and Heating Apprenticeship is a more advanced training program that builds on the foundation established in the Level 2 apprenticeship. This course is designed for those wishing to further develop their plumbing and heating expertise, with a focus on more complex systems, technologies, and techniques.

The 2 year course for Level 3 apprenticeship combines practical, on-the-job training with classroom-based study.
Apprentices will work with experienced professionals to install, maintain, and repair systems in real-world environments, while also attending college to learn advanced theoretical concepts.
The course includes regular assessments, practical tasks, written exams, and a final end-point assessment to ensure apprentices meet industry standards.
Apprentices will gain advanced practical skills in the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating systems.
You will need:
- to have completed the Level 2 Plumbing Apprenticeship OR
- have equivalent experience in the plumbing and heating industry
- Grade C or above GCSEs in English and Mathematics (or equivalent)
- Understand how to Organise resources within BSE
- Understand domestic cold water system installation, commissioning, service and maintenance techniques
- Understand hot water system installation, commissioning, service and maintenance techniques
- Understand domestic central heating system installation, commissioning, service and maintenance techniques
- Understand electrical work on domestic plumbing and heating systems and components
- Understand domestic sanitation system installation, commissioning, service and maintenance technique
- Understand core oil firing safety principles within domestic building services engineering
- Understand the principles of domestic oil firing pressure jet appliances
Upon successful completion of the Level 3 Plumbing and Heating Apprenticeship, apprentices can further specialize in areas such as gas fitting, heating engineering, renewable energy systems, or plumbing design. Graduates may pursue roles such as:
- Advanced Plumber
- Heating Engineer
- Gas Engineer (with Gas Safe certification)
- Renewable Energy Specialist
- Plumbing and Heating Supervisor
- Maintenance Engineer
- Plumbing and Heating Designer
