Why Study This Course

This Civil Engineering course will provide you with the skills you need to start working in the Civil Engineering Industry.   It is aimed at those who are employed and want to pursue a career in the Civil Engineering industry.  Learners will gain valuable experience as an apprentice in the workplace and the college’s excellent workshops.

There is a major demand for Civil Engineering Skills. Civil Engineers design the infrastructure that we use everyday.

This includes:

  • Building Roads and Bridges
  • Creating Buildings
  • Ensuring there is a supply of clean water
  • Designing Gas, Electricity and Energy Networks
Course Overview

This 2 year apprenticeship programme will allow participants to achieve the full Level 3 Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering.  It comprises teaching on all aspects of the topic including sustainable construction, mathematics, technology and design in construction and civil engineering.

Learners will attend college (face-to-face) for approximately 9 hours per week, timetabled over 1 day.  The remainder of the week will be spent with your employer.

    You will need:

    • an employer AND
    • 5 GCSEs at Grade C to include English and preferred Grade B in Maths with a Grade C or above in Science or equivalent

    This course will provide you with the skills you need to start working in the Civil Engineering Industry. You will undertake the Pearson Level 3 National Diploma in Civil Engineering.

    • Construction Principles
    • Construction Design
    • Construction Technology
    • Health & Safety
    • Site Engineering for Construction
    • Further Mathematics
    • Construction in Civil Engineering

    Optional Units:

    • Surveying in Construction
    • Management of a Construction Project
    • Principles and applications of structural mechanics

    A second qualification is also completed (a NVQ qualification): Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Diploma in Civil Engineering for Technicians (Institution of Civil Engineers).

    • Develop and finalise civil engineering solutions

    Successful completion of this programme will enable you to apply to employment in areas such as structural, environmental or geotechnical engineering.
