Learning Academy (Staff Development)
Introduction
SERC encourages staff to develop their skills and knowledge. Staff have the opportunity to access a range of managed and self-managed training through the Learning Academy.
Where an individual has identified or is required to attend training, some personal data may be recorded for the purpose of processing the application and/or certification, either internally or with external third-party providers/Awarding Body. The College will process all personal data in compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
All data processed for the above purposes will be proportionate and necessary. Staff will demonstrate an ethical and responsible approach when processing such information and respect the privacy of individuals.
This Notice will give you further information about how your personal data will be used.

Lawful Basis
SERC is committed to building its reputation with stakeholders however we must have a lawful basis to use your personal data for such reasons:
- Article 6.1 (b) - processing is necessary for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is party or in order to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract.
- Article 6.1 (c) – Processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the controller is subject.
- Article 6.1 (f) – processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the controller or by a third party, except where such interests are overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject which require protection of personal data, in particular where the data subject is a child
- Article 9.2 (b) - processing is necessary for the purpose of carrying out the obligations of the data controller or of the data subject in the field of employment, social security, and social protection law.
How Will Your Information be Processed?
Information that is gathered will be used to facilitate your registration on a programme, certification on a programme, or to facilitate the requested Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activity.
Categories of Personal Data
To assist the Learning Academy in facilitating the CPD event/activity/request, the College may need to process the following information about you:
- Name
- Gender
- Address
- Health data
- Date of birth
- Contact details (e.g. email address, telephone number)
- Professional registrations (e.g. teacher number, membership number)
- Driving Licence information
- Course programme
- Qualifications achieved
- Awards attained
- Employment history (e.g., contract date, start date)
- Placement information
- Passport information
Who will have access to my information, or who will you share it with?
To enable the Learning Academy to facilitate the staff development activity/event/request, the College may share your information with the following third parties:
- External training providers
- Awarding organisations
- Professional bodies
- Placement providers
- Project Partners
- Travel agents
Your information may also be shared with internal departments for the purposes of processing e.g. customer services, exams.
We require third party service providers to respect the security of your data and to treat it in accordance with the law.
