“I didn’t want to stay on at school after my GCSEs and was ready to move on. I came along to an open day at SERC to find out a bit more about what I might do. I had studied health and social care at school and was initially interested in pursuing that area, but I also had an interest in Beauty Therapy. My sister works in the industry and had also studied at SERC and recommended it. I suppose she influenced my decision, but when I came to the open day and saw the facilities and met the tutors, I think that helped me make up my mind to do the Level 2 Beauty Therapy."

“I am really enjoying the course so far and especially enjoy all the practical experience. We learn so much on the course - waxing, makeup, facials, eyebrows, eyelashes – as you can imagine, I am very popular at home! I need to get as much practice in as possible, so I don’t mind. I guess it is like practical homework. We also get experience in the salon in the College where students, staff and the public book in for appointments, and recently, my class took part in a wellbeing event to offer treatments to staff and student carers."

“The course is well designed as we study each area, practice, and then follow through with assignments so it is a great way to learn, and you are building on your skills all the time. The tutors are all lovely and it is all about being professional from the moment you walk in the door – from your own presentation and communication with clients, and of course building up your confidence."

“I plan to go on to the Level 3 in Beauty Therapy and will then seek full time work in the industry.”
