Level 3 Uniformed Protective Services Students Volunteer their time for Fun Run

Students from SERC’s Bangor Campus donated their time and energy to volunteer at the recent children’s fun run fundraiser in support of three local cancer charities.

First year students from the Level 3 Uniformed Protective Services got involved when they heard about the plight of local child Jodi, now aged five, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in March 2021 and since then has undergone intense chemotherapy and surgery and is still receiving treatment. ‘Jodi’s Giants’ came together through social media and have been taking it upon themselves to raise awareness and much needed funds through a series of local activities which has generated over £13,000.

The Jodi’s Giants fun run for young children was organised by parents at Ballyholme Primary School with the aim of supporting the Children’s Cancer Unit, Cancer Fund for Children and Angel Wishes.

SERC students provided advice, guidance and direction to other supporters and cheered on participants, administering water to young runners. The event organisers praised their hard work and proactive dedication.  The students are continuing a series of volunteering activities as part of Duke of Edinburgh Award and Millennium Volunteers.
