Here at SERC we are keen to promote internal colleagues to allow staff the opportunity to get to know each other and put a face to the name, particularly due to the size and scope of SERC.

With this in mind, “Meet your Colleagues” is a fun Q and A exercise to help raise awareness of people’s roles within SERC and allows you to get to know more about your fellow colleagues.

This week’s “Meet your Colleagues” features Dearbhla Knight. Dearbhla currently works as an Intern from the Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Department at SERC.

SERC’s Intern Academy is a year-long internship which will provide interns with an opportunity to gain invaluable work experience within the industry.

1. What does your role at SERC involve?

Everyday is different, my job role ranges from event management, to helping student companies progress and grow into a valuable and profitable business. I am also involved in SERC's Eco Committee and and I help manage the Entrepreneur club.

2. Tell us a bit about your background?

I graduated from Ulster University in 2015 with a degree in Communications with Public Relations. I then moved to Australia and worked in sales and then went on to work in traffic control in the outback for my second-year visa.

In my second year in Australia I worked for a global company called Computershare as an operations assistant in motor insurance. I then went travelling to Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.   On my return home I began working in the SRC Newry as part of the Campus Services team for 6 months.

I then went and worked as a learning support classroom assistant in St Malachy’s High School Castlewellan before taking up my post as an intern in late August 2019 with SERC.
