A site visit gives construction students a real insight to their chosen industry.

Students from the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment programme at the Bangor campus recently got an insight to the construction of Radius Housing’s new headquarters in Holywood.
The visit was made possible through Open Doors Week, a UK wide initiative delivered by Build UK, that takes young people and those looking for a change of career safely behind the scenes of a construction project to showcase the range of careers available in the UK construction industry.
QMAC Construction welcomed the visitors to the Holywood site, where they had a tour of the live construction site and were able to ask questions from key people responsible for the build.
Simon Cummings, Deputy Head of School of the Built Environment said, “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students not only to see a site in progress, but to have the chance to meet and speak to people on site that ensure the build goes to plan."
He added, “Many of our students will progress to higher education courses that will take them to careers in civil engineering, architecture and quantity surveying. This can often be influenced by meeting people working in the construction industry and hearing about their day-to-day roles and responsibilities, so visits to sites such as the new headquarters for Radius Housing are invaluable.”
Anita Conway, Director of Development, Radius Housing, “Engaging with the next generation of professionals is crucial and we’re proud to be able to support site visits like this and contribute to their educational journey.”
Apply now for construction courses commencing September 2025.
