South Eastern Regional College (SERC) Level 3 Manufacturing students recently tested their computer aided design (CAD) skills in a CAD intercampus competition that took place at the College’s Lisburn campus.
Competitors from SERC’s Bangor, Downpatrick and Lisburn campuses were tasked with using the CAD software ‘Solidworks’ to generate part and assembly models, as well as part and assembly drawings, for a cam clamp – a quick action fastening device. Participants were judged on the quality of their models and drawings, as well as their ability to use the CAD Programme effectively.
First place was won by SERC Lisburn campus student Jack Baldwin, (17), from Dromore, second place was won by SERC Downpatrick campus student Noah Holden (18), from Downpatrick, and third place was won by SERC Bangor campus student Ryan Hope (18), from Newtownards. These students received a certificate in addition to an amazon gift voucher for their success.
SERC Lecturer in Mechanical Design, Patrick Morris comments, “The intercampus CAD competition is a fantastic event that provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their part, assembly and drawing skills that they’ve gained through their Level 3 studies within the College. It provides students with the opportunity to showcase their CAD skills and allows them to network with other engineering students across other SERC Campuses. Congratulations to all the students who took part.”
