Stoptober

Stoptober is back this October to encourage and to support smokers to quit for good. Many people try to quit smoking with willpower alone, but it’s much easier to go smoke-free with the right help. When you stop smoking and stop vaping, you begin to see almost immediate improvements to your health.
Many people may think there is little, or no risk of personal harm associated with regular vaping. The biggest misunderstanding about vapes is that they are harmless compared to cigarettes. This is not true. The long-term health implications are unknown - just as they once were with tobacco.
There is emerging evidence and increasing concerns about the risks of vaping, particularly regarding cardiovascular and respiratory illness. Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke have produced a leaflet in conjunction with their stop vaping campaign, to raise awareness of the health risks associated with vaping. To access, click here.
Cancer Focus will be on SERC Newtownards and Bangor Campuses on Thursday 10 October 2024 to support staff who wish to stop smoking or vaping. They will be available in Newtownards Campus from 9.30am to 10.30am in the staff room on the ground floor, and in Bangor Campus at 11.15am to 12.30pm in the staff lounge, B1. No appointment necessary.
