South Eastern Regional College Welcomes Malawi and Mozambique Delegates

South Eastern Regional College (SERC) were delighted to host a delegation from Malawi and Mozambique in SERC Bangor Campus recently.   

This visit was made possible through the British Council ‘Going Global Partnerships’ Programme, which supports partnerships between universities, colleges, education policy makers, civil society organisations and industry partners in the UK and around the world. Through the programme, institutions can build relationships, collaborate, and share good practice with international partners.  

The delegates who visited SERC included principals from technical and vocational education and training (TVET) colleges in Mozambique, including the Institute Comercial in Maputo, the Instituto Industrial e Comercial Eduardo Mondlane, in the Inhambane province, and the Escola Técnica in Mumemo. The delegation also included members from the Technical, Entrepreneurial, and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) Authority from Malawi, as well as members of the British Council.  

Delegates met with SERC’s Senior Management Team and participated in workshops during the weeklong visit, which focused on developing soft skills in education and discussing women in leadership. Delegates also got to experience some cultural activities during their stay in Northern Ireland, such as a visit to the North Coast including the Giants Causeway.  

Elaine McKeown, SERC Senior International Development Manager, comments, “SERC was delighted to welcome partners from Malawi and Mozambique on their study visit to SERC through funding from the British Council ‘Going Global Partnerships’ Programme. The partners from TVET institutions in Mozambique are focussing on the development of soft skills through a project-based learning approach, whilst the TEVET partners from Malawi are focussing on developing women’s strategic leadership skills. The collaborative nature of these projects resulted in a joint visit where SERC shared its best practice approaches in these important areas, helping the partners to develop their own approaches whilst providing a platform for partners to share their experiences and learn from each other. It was a pleasure to host our partners and we look forward not only to continuing this project, but also establishing long-term sustainable collaborations in Mozambique and Malawi.”
