Sara Beggs, a Level 3 Hairdressing student from SERC is proving to be a cut above the rest as she has just been announced a Regional Winner in the national Wella Xposure Student Hairdressing Competition 2019.
Sara, from Bangor, is the only student from Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland to get to the semi-finals of this prestigious competition. She said, “This is the first time SERC has entered the competition so I am very excited that I have got through to the semi-finals which will be held in Edinburgh later this month. I had to plan and prepare a creative cut and colour using a Balayage technique whereby the colour is applied freehand rather than using traditional foil or cap highlighting techniques. I also used colour melts, melting one colour into another. The effects are quite dramatic. It has been a team effort to get this far as you need a model and good photography for the first submission, and I am grateful to the fellow students from the College who were able to support me.
She added, “Being selected for the semi-finals has been a real confidence boost. I have only been hairdressing for the past 2 years, completing the Level 2 before progressing to Level 3 Hairdressing so it is testament to the teaching at the College that I have come so far in a relatively short time. I have learnt so much and you have to put the hours in, but I am loving every minute of the course.”
Hairdressing Lecturer, Judith Magill, said, “Sara has worked very hard over the past two years and we are very proud of her and wish her every success in the semi-finals. Five of our students entered the Wella Xposure competition, supported by the Colleges Competition Fund. As a result, they will receive online mentoring from a celebrity stylist over the next few months which will give them all a boost to complement their course work.”
