Bangor man Rory Orme (23) completed an MSc in Energy from Herriot Watt University before returning to NI to seek work in the renewable energy sector. He applied for a job with Warmflow Engineering, through Intertrade Ireland/Career Boost and having secured an interview, he contacted the SERC Careers team to get help with preparation for the interview. He said, “I had never had an interview for a full-time job, so appreciated the help and support the SERC team were able to offer which included a practice interview.

He added, “Shirley from the SERC Careers team was friendly and well informed about the interview process and this helped me to relax and concentrate my thoughts on the day. She advised me on the STAR technique for highlighting my skills and qualities and worked with me to help predict both the format and the questions which turned out to be very accurate.

Rory concluded, “I would highly recommend contacting the Careers team at SERC whether you are progressing for further study and don’t know what direction to take or starting off in employment. The support I received contributed massively to helping me secure my first job following graduation.”
