SERC teams up with AccessAble

Monday 3 December is International day for Disabilities. To mark this occasion, SERC has partnered with AccessAble to provide Access Guides to students, staff and visitors who may require additional support on campus. The guide contains practical access information about areas in which students, staff and visitors to the College are likely to find themselves.

AccessAble, originally called DisabledGo, is a national disability organisation founded in 2000 by Dr Gregory Burke, as a result of his own experiences as a wheelchair user and disabled walker.

As part of a three-year agreement, SERC will work with AccessAble to ensure that the right support is in place for everyone within the community who wishes to attend the College.

Existing and prospective students are encouraged to meet with the Learning Support team and have a tour of the campuses to discuss any specific support needs or reasonable adjustments.

SERC will also continually make improvements to ensure that the campuses are as accessible as possible with the newly implemented Facilities Improvement and Maintenance Plan to identify and remove any barriers to access.

SERC’s Human Resources Department works closely with the Health and Safety and Estates departments to ensure that reasonable adjustments and support needs for staff and students with disabilities are met.

SERC Head of Estates & Facilities Management Gary Chambers said “I am delighted to see these access guides produced for the College by AccessAble (formerly DisabledGo). At SERC we are committed to meeting the needs of all staff and students and making sure our facilities are accessible to everyone. Working with AccessAble will allow us to identify any changes required and implement them quickly and effectively.”
