SERC offering Commis Chef training Opportunities

SERC is collaborating with six local restaurants to offer the opportunity to learn valuable culinary skills at its Bangor campus.
Applicants require no previous experience or qualifications and must be 18 or over, unemployed or working less than 16 hours per week.
The Department for the Economy’s Bridge to Employment will see successful applicants receive training from Monday March 11 to Friday April 5. It will consist of three weeks training in SERC’s Bangor Campus, followed by one week’s work experience in a restaurant. At the end of the course, participants will gain RSPH L2 in Food Safety and Hygiene and RSPH L2 in Allergen Awareness and will be guaranteed a job interview with a participating restaurant.
Paul Mercer, Deputy Head of School for Hospitality, Management, Tourism and Languages at SERC said, “SERC is pleased to be able to deliver this Bridge to Employment programme to aspiring chefs with support from the Department for the Economy and in collaboration with six local companies. “

Participants will be reimbursed travel expenses, will keep their benefits (if they are receiving) and may be eligible for child care allowance.
Applications are open until 4:00p.m. Thursday February 21.
