South Eastern Regional College (SERC) is launching a new Pharmacy Services Apprenticeship in September 2020 with the help of UCA-NI Ltd and local pharmacies across Northern Ireland.
The new Level 2 Pharmacy Services Apprenticeship is designed to meet the needs of those employed as dispensing assistants in the community pharmacy sector and the health service. The course will be delivered online with a combination of weekly virtual tutorials and required independent study. In addition, there will be a minimum of four observations in the workplace throughout the duration of the programme.
Adrienne Clugston, UCA-NI Operations Manager, comments, “We are delighted to be working with SERC to deliver a programme tailored to the community pharmacy sector. It is an exciting time to be working in pharmacy as they are a vital part of the healthcare sector. Pharmacy Apprentices will be training for a central role in the team, working alongside the pharmacist in the dispensary, helping to look after the health of the community on a daily basis.”
Victoria Boyd, Training Programme Manager at SERC said, “This apprenticeship is a great opportunity for those interested in the pharmaceutical industry to get practical experience in a community pharmacy work environment, as well as achieve a professional technical qualification. Apprentices will get valuable on-the-job training in the areas of receiving prescriptions, issuing prescribed items, selling pharmacy medicines and products, and helping with the manufacture and assembly of medicinal products, among other duties.”
