South Eastern Regional College (SERC) recently saw the installation of two new twin Electric Vehicle Charging (EVC) units at the college’s Downpatrick campus.

Paul Walsh campus manager for SERC Downpatrick said “The installation of these units is the latest in a long line of proactive and progressive moves from the college as it works to become greener and more sustainable in everything it does.”

“This is also a preparation for the future of motoring with hybrid and electrical cars becoming more and more essential as the green alternative to our petrol and diesel vehicles. Again, SERC is leading the way with our team of light vehicle experts delivering training through the IMI Level 4 course in Diagnostics, Testing and Repair of Electrical/Hybrid vehicles.”

Paul concluded “There are allocated parking bays in the rear car park; the spaces are demarcated in green paint with white painted e-car logos. We hope staff at the college make use of this new facility and find it very beneficial.”

Graham oversaw the supply and installation of these units. Ryan Connor, Graham Facilities Manager commented  “SERC is proactively green and it has a clear vision, with defined strategies and measurable targets. The new EVC units at its Downpatrick campus are a clear statement of its intent to go green. We worked closely with J&R Electrical to ensure the smooth outcome of this project. It was delivered professionally in line with our agreed programme of works.”

Graham and J&R Electrical are also partnering on a similar EVC project at SERC’s Lisburn campus in the coming weeks.

SERC’s active commitment to the environment includes the introduction of an Eco Committee, regular eco blogs, new recycling bins, the innovative “babbling bins”, an online shop that sells eco-friendly products, and more. The college recently won a Green Gown Award in the enterprise category, a reflection on the college's on-going efforts.
