SERC students on Level 3 Engineering courses had the opportunity to test their skills against each other recently, in an intercampus Computer Aided Design (CAD) competition held at SERC Lisburn Campus.

Contestants were selected from the Level 3 National Extended Diploma courses in Engineering (Mechatronics), in Advanced Manufacturing, and in Advanced Electronics across from SERC Downpatrick and SERC Lisburn Campuses.

They were given parts to model on CAD software and were challenged to generate assembly models and drawings.

After a morning of intense concentration, the students submitted their work to be marked and judged by Patrick Morris, lecturer and curriculum manager in the School of Engineering and Science.

First place was awarded to Daniel Bisset, who is 18 and from Portadown, Hannah McKibbin (17, from Carryduff), was awarded second place and Carter Hazley (16, from Lisburn) took third place. Winners took home vouchers and certificates.
