The SERC LRCs are promoting and supporting the use of their spaces for extracurricular reading/creative writing. It’s one of a range of new initiatives they are embarking on this year, as they seek to underpin the holistic learning journey of all students by encouraging them to use the library spaces more.

One such group which has been enthusiastically meeting in the LRCs since the start of term is The Inkwell Editorials. Bonded by their interest in creative writing and poetry, this team have been the driving force behind ‘The Inkwell Journal’. This online publication showcases the talent of past and present SERC students, in the written word in various forms, and artwork. Copies of the Inkwell Journal are available at each SERC LRC.

This month, The Inkwell Journal has secured a special guest visit - acclaimed local poet Gifford Savage. Gifford Savage is from Bangor, Northern Ireland. His poetry has been published in various journals, including The Storms, Poetry NI, The Bangor Literary Journal, The New Verse News, Agape Review the Lothlorien Poetry Journal. He was included in the 2022 CAP anthology 'Across the Threshold' and was winner of the Aspects Festival Poetry Slam 2022. Gifford will be in the Bangor campus LRC on 5 December at 12 noon, to share information about his creative process and to read from his work. Keep an eye on the SERC LRC Instagram page for more information.

A manga book club is also in the pipeline, inspired by the sizable collection of manga zines donated to our Fabulous Fiction Trust Library. Ask at the LRC desk for more details.

If you have an idea for a book club, the LRC would love to hear it, and can help provide the space and the promotional support for it to thrive. For more information, talk to your local LRC staff.
