International Day of Persons with Disabilities

02 December 2024
International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed on 3 December each year to promote the rights, dignity and wellbeing of people with disabilities, and to increase awareness of their challenges. The theme for this year is amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.
Not all disabilities are immediately apparent, such as mental illness, chronic pain or fatigue, sight or hearing impairments, diabetes, brain injuries, neurological disorders, learning differences and cognitive dysfunctions. For example, it’s estimated that 1 in 5 people are neurodivergent in some way, making this one of the most common invisible disabilities. Examples of neurodiversity include ADHD, autism, dyspraxia, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia and tourette’s syndrome.
