Level 2 Sports students from SERC’s  Downpatrick Campus are hosting an inflatable ‘It’s A Knock Out’ Competition at Dunleath Playing Fields, Market Street, Downpatrick, 10am – 1.30pm on Friday 29 March.

Aimee Grant, Sport Lecturer at SERC said, ‘It’s a Knock Out has been organised entirely by the Level 2 Sports students as part of their course.   The students undertake a planning and running an event module which requires them to pull together to organise and host a sporting event in the local community.   They develop their interpersonal, organisational and team work skills in a bid to promote sport and local facilities.

She added, “The students secured funding from the College Competition Fund through the Department for Economy which has helped them realise their ambitious plans for the Knock Out Competition which will involve in 4 different inflatable activities. There will also be archery, a rock climbing wall, tug-o-war and skittles.

“Approximately 18 teams of young people aged 15 – 18, are set to compete on the day comprising students from SERC Campuses in Bangor, Downpatrick and Lisburn and we are delighted that there will also be teams from St Patrick’s Grammar School and Blackwater Integrated College in Downpatrick  taking part.   It promises to be a fun and enjoyable day.”

PIP's Downpatrick will also have a presence at the event, providing a talk for the young people entitled It’s ok not to be ok”  which focuses on dealing with upcoming exam pressures and deadlines.

In addition, Sport Development Officers from Newry, Mourne and Down Council will be helping on the day.   Following the event, they will give a short talk on the range of sporting opportunities students can get involved with  through the council.
