Budding news hounds are getting the opportunity to learn the skills they need to break into the broadcast news industry through a news broadcast journalism course at SERC.

The part-time course, which commences on Thursday 2 May for 8 weeks, will give students the opportunity to build and present a radio news bulletin and a short radio feature, which could be broadcast on the SERC’s radio stations.

Paul Cromie, Course tutor and Station Manager at Bangor FM said, “The course is perfect for anyone who has an interest in news and current affairs.

He added, “It will include a behind-the-scenes look at how news is made but will also allow students to learn the skills required to produce news for radio, providing a solid foundation necessary for anyone who wants to gain employment in the sector.

He added “The college has state of the art live broadcasting facilities and host three radio stations at Bangor FM, Lisburn’s 98FM and FM105 in Downpatrick. The stations are managed by professionals and staffed by people who have worked in the industry, volunteers and students across the three campuses.   Having such facilities means those involved have hands-on experience to complements their course work and relevant experience for work, before they even leave the college.”

Places are limited and anyone interested should visit bit.ly/SERCbreakingnews  to apply online or view more details about the programme.
