SERC student celebrating Graduation

Congratulations to all our students who joined with family and friends at the College’s annual graduation ceremony at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall on Friday 2 September 2022 – the first in-person ceremony since 2019.

We were delighted to celebrate the efforts, academic achievements and the success of 790 full-time and part-time students. Ken Webb, Principal and Chief Executive of SERC extended congratulations to all of the Graduates on behalf of the Senior Management Team and staff of the College.   He remarked that everyone had worked hard for their qualification and their success is well deserved, especially in view of the challenges students faced during the pandemic.

Our guest speaker, Ross Hompstead, Site Lead for the ASOS Northern Ireland Tech Hub, shared with students his career path, proving that even introverts can find their style for leadership and passed on key messages about the importance of kindness, caring for your team, celebrating the highs and supporting the lows, wherever you work.

Presentation of Graduation achievement certificates was followed by Higher Education Student Excellence Awards and our Business Excellence Awards.

Whilst the day was primarily to recognise SERC’s Higher Education Graduates, it was also about celebrating the wider community which makes up SERC.  As such, we were delighted that Kate Thompson, from the Duke of Edinburgh/Joint Gaisce Award, could join us to celebrate the first Gold Awardees from the College’s Foundation Skills course.

Finally, Leah Hamilton, (Bangor) who graduated with a Liverpool John Moores University BA (Hons) in Business Studies – delivered at SERC  - gave the Student Vote of Thanks, which highlighted her personal experience of the College and the amazing mentoring and guidance received during her time with SERC.

Whilst we took many photographs inside, the weather held long enough for us to step outside and enjoy taking some more in the autumnal sunshine with graduates, lecturing teams, family and friends.

Thank you to all our guests, speakers, music students - Orion Courtney-Lee, Nicky Dougherty, and Andrew Nelson - who welcomed guests; student enterprise, Cutting Edge for design and production of bespoke Awards, and to all staff teams involved in graduation.

Watch out for our special Graduation page coming soon, which will include a Roll of Honour and a video from the day capturing some of the atmosphere of what, for many of us, was a most fitting celebration for Class of 2022.
