A networking event was held in South Eastern Regional College (SERC) Bangor Campus recently to mark the completion of the College’s Female Leadership Programme.
The networking event was attended by eight participants from the Female Leadership Programme, which was funded by Ards and North Down Borough Council. The event was designed to recognise, share and reflect on the experiences, challenges and successes of the Female Leadership Programme participants, as well as to help them develop new short and long-term goals for their onward journeys into the world of business. As part of the Female Leadership Programme, participants were able to complete either the CMI Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management or the CMI Level 7 in Strategic Leadership and Management courses at SERC.
Guest speaker Claire Bannon from Behind the Stable Door shared her experiences with the group of being a woman in a leadership role within a social enterprise, overcoming obstacles to achieve goals. The Mayor of Ards and North Down Borough Council, Councillor Jennifer Gilmour, also said some words of encouragement to the participants, congratulating them on the programme completion as well as presenting them with their certificates for completing their Level 5 and Level 7 CMI courses.
Clare McManus, SERC Business Development Manager, said: “Women’s leadership programmes help women unlock their leadership potential, which in turn helps organisations achieve their goals. We know about the benefits of women in leadership and the challenges female leaders face, yet with this knowledge many organisations struggle to tap into the full potential of their existing and up-and-coming female leaders. SERC has designed and delivered an accredited leadership and management development course to develop good female leaders that will create growth and sustainability. The programme has worked with female business owners, employees and entrepreneurs to develop the skills, tools and competencies they require for effectively operating in today’s constantly changing and challenging business environment.”
