In order to deliver a high-quality service, SERC has developed the College Development Plan (CDP) for 2018/19 which is set out to support and contribute to several key government strategies and policies.
SERC has taken an Outcomes Based Approach (OBA) to setting key priorities for 2018/2019, based on the needs of the population and aligning to the Programme for Government Outcomes.
The OBA to delivering services, advocated by the draft Programme for Government and adopted by SERC, means that SERC must consider the impact of actions to ensure a positive difference to the population we serve.
The CDP outlines five key overlapping priorities as well as proposals for each of the following:
- Delivering a Priority Skills, STEAM focused curriculum in line with the needs identified by the NI Skills Barometer.
- Upskilling the existing workforce to improve business efficiency and productivity thereby enabling them to grow jobs and improve GVA.
- Addressing social inclusion by providing opportunities for those not in work, to obtain a professional or technical qualification allowing them to gain employment and escape the benefit cycle.
- Enhancing employment opportunities for all students by incorporating enterprise skills development within each curriculum area.
- Improving effectiveness of our training provision through the quality of our approach, leading to high success rates and therefore providing a better return on investment for the Department of the Economy and other funders.
SERC has developed three defined report cards which set out baseline information about the population.
The report cards set out in tabular form, the actions SERC will take and how performance will be measured to ensure that actions are relevant to the needs of the community. The report cards below explore performance under the headings:
- How much did we do?
- How well did we do it?
- Is anyone better off?
The report cards include information on SERC’s impact in the 2016/2017 academic year. This provides the foundation for determining forthcoming actions for 2018/2019 which is included in the section ‘What do we propose to do?’.
Following the OBA to delivery, ensures that SERC’s actions provide a meaningful impact for the community.
In order to deliver a high-quality service, SERC will continue to invest in highly valued, professional, motivated and enthusiastic staff. SERC will build managerial capability and promote equality and inclusion in the workplace.
