Over 100 people recently took part in a fundraising quiz night in Bangor, which was supported by Bangor FM and SERC.

An amazing £860 was raised for the North Down Community Network’s Wellbeing Centre at Main Street, Bangor. The funds will go towards helping the most vulnerable people in the area by making sure that they have a warm and welcoming space to come to.

Louise Little, Manager of the North Down Community Network said: “The support both in the form of fundraising and friendship that people have given so generously is deeply appreciated. It’s really inspiring to be surrounded by so many great people and organisations and we’re grateful for the generosity of local businesses for ballot prizes like the Red Berry and partners like Bangor FM helping us deliver such a great night.  We all need something like this to lift people spirits and huge congratulations goes to the deserving winners, our neighbours from Trinity Presbyterian Church."

Not only did Bangor FM presenters compere the quiz night, they were also awarded special recognition certificates for their voluntary service at the SERC supported radio station.

Shirley Graham and Louise O’Driscoll, who are former students at SERC, having successfully completed a part-time radio production course in 2018, were recognised for their voluntary service for five years and four years respectively.

Jan Fox received her certificate for one year of voluntary service and Lynne Webber, who began her voluntary career at SERC at Lisburn’s 98FM, was given a special certificate for ten years of voluntary presenting.

Bangor FM Station Manager Paul Cromie said: “The station has always had close connections with the North Down Community Network and we try our best to promote the excellent work the team does for everyone in the North Down area.  It was a privilege for the Bangor FM team to be involved in raising vital funds for the Wellbeing Centre and it was also the perfect night to recognise our own radio station volunteers for their incredible work they do for our local area.”
