SERC’s Downpatrick Campus - and the whole town - was buzzing yesterday when BBC NI came to town. We were delighted to host BBC Radio Ulster’s Vinny and Cate Show which was broadcast from SERC’s College Kitchen at Downpatrick Campus on Wednesday 22 May.

If you missed the show you can listen again on BBC Sounds  https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001zdl9

The outside broadcast was part of the BBC NI’s Comes to Town 100th anniversary celebrations, when a variety of shows are broadcast from different locations and this time it was Downpatrick.

The Vinny and Cate Show included a real flavour of the SERC community – with interviews from legacy SERC student, Ryan Milligan, an astrophysicist who works with NASA; and Tim Wheeler, from local music legends Ash – as well as activity in the Downpatrick Campus.

Huge thanks to past student Jenny Greer who shared her story of retuning to SERC and how it helped her to progress to university via the Level 3 Access Diploma in Foundation Studies; Culinary Arts Lecturer, Thomas Turley (known now as Chef Turley) and his fantastic Level 2 Professional Chef students, Chyna Lavery, Chloe Kelly and Louis McClelland. The team cooked up a storm and kept the presenters and audience in awe of their culinary delights, with Thomas and Chyna sharing their passion for all things culinary; Catherine Shipman, Head of Engagement, for sharing important aspects of our pastoral care at SERC by highlighting the support and wonderful facilities such as the Recharge Room (on Level 5 if you haven’t visited yet); Sarah Stranney, Michaela Doran and Avery Chambers - from Level 2 and 3 Technical Diploma in Art and Design who set up their stalls for their own enterprises/businesses  - jewellery, craft, cards, clothing, artwork, and crochet items – and spoke so wonderfully about how enterprise and entrepreneurship are embedded into their courses of study; and finally, to all the Level 2 and 3 Creative Media Production students who came along to see the show put together and who fully participated in all requests for input and audience participation.

Thank you to Keri-Ann Ross and Ellie Bradley for all their support with the students in the background; to all the staff who came along to help out on the evening, and to the Graham’s team for all their support turning College Kitchen into a live broadcast venue
