There is always an air of excitement in SERC around results day – one of the most important days in the College’s calendar – this year was no different, apart from the buzz created when BBC NI Digital Education team dropped by to do a live stream results day programme from SERC’s Lisburn Campus.

Siobhan Fearon, Head of Communications, Engagement and Admissions said, “We were delighted when BBC NI approached us in June about hosting their results day programme which has been streamed live on Facebook this past few years.

“At SERC, we firmly believe that young people and their parents and guardians should be aware of all the post GCSE options open to them following their results, whether that is moving on to further education, staying on at school or seeking employment.   The decisions they take at this stage can impact on the rest of their lives, so it is vitally important they know what is available.   With this in mind, we were thrilled to be working with the BBC to get this message across through the Make It live stream presented by Linzi Lima. SERC Careers Advisor, Ruth Annett was part of the expert panel and Johnny Kidd was in the background giving advice online on student finance.  It was a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase SERC and the fact that our Careers Service is open to everyone who walks through our door, whether you plan to come to SERC or go elsewhere.   The advice is impartial and will be for the individual and their unique circumstances.

She added, “Thousands of young people and their parents will have watched the BBC NI Make It programme when it was live streamed but there is still the opportunity to watch it online at BBC NI Facebook page bit.ly/MakeItSERC

“Not only can you hear the panel of experts, but you can see the questions that students and parents were asking during the live stream and the responses which contain valuable information for anyone still making decisions about their future.”
