Campus pride and vehicle know-how were at the fore of the recent Intercampus Light Vehicle Competition, when apprentices from SERC’s Downpatrick and Newtownards Campuses went head-to-head.

Hugh Kelly, Deputy Head of School of Construction and Engineering Services said, “This competition involved seven apprentices from our Level 3 Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Light Vehicle) Apprenticeship NI putting their skills to the test in five tasks: engine management non-start; brake pad and disc measurement and replace; MOT; body electrical fault; and engine measurement – everyday tasks that they would be expected to manage at this stage of their apprenticeship in the workplace."

He added, “We have seen good competent workmanship, which made for a tight competition, and I want to congratulate all the apprentices who put themselves to the test.”

Joint first place went to Andrew Kenmore (20) from Newtownards, employed by Mercedes-Benz (Newtownards Campus) and Adam Hession (21) from Crossgar, employed by Terry King & Sons, Newcastle (Downpatrick Campus).

Second place went to Harry McCarroll (20) employed by McCarrolls Garage, Carryduff (Newtownards Campus).

Third place went to Max McKervey (20) employed by BMW Bavarian (Downpatrick Campus).
