South Eastern Regional College (SERC) Level 2 Health and Social Care Apprentice Taylor Watson (20), from Ballywalter, has won the ‘Young Carer of the Year’ Award, at the Heart of Peninsula Care Awards Ceremony, organised by Peninsula Care Services.
The Heart of Peninsula Care Awards took place at La Mon Hotel and Country Club, celebrating the company’s most talented, dedicated, and loyal staff. The event also welcomed nominations from external organisations, recognising individuals who demonstrate excellence in day-to-day patient care.
The ceremony featured 19 award categories, with SERC apprentice Taylor Watson winning the ‘Young Carer of the Year’ Award. Taylor was recognised for her remarkable growth and development whilst working at Peninsula Care Services, earning high praise from both staff at the company and SERC tutors for her outstanding progress in her work.
On her success at the competition, Taylor comments, “Winning the Young Carer of the Year Award is truly an honour, and I can hardly express the whirlwind of emotions racing through me. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported me on this journey. To my mentors, colleagues, and, most importantly, the incredible individuals I’ve had the privilege to care for—thank you for trusting me and allowing me to be a part of your lives.
“Being a Care Assistant is not just a job; it’s a calling. It’s about compassion, empathy, and the unwavering commitment to making a difference, no matter how small. There are days when the challenges feel overwhelming, but it’s in those moments of connection, of laughter, and of shared stories that I find my purpose. Knowing that I can bring a smile to someone’s face or ease their worries is the greatest reward of all.
“I am motivated to continue growing, learning, and striving to be the best Care Assistant I can be. I hope to inspire others to join this vital field, where we can make a profound impact on the lives of those who need it most. This recognition fills my heart with joy and gratitude. I promise to carry this honour with pride and to continue advocating for kindness, compassion, and excellence in care.”
