South Eastern Regional College's (SERC's) Entrepreneur Club kicked off Global Entrepreneurship Week at the college with a live talk by Phil Hunter, founder of Social Dance Academy Belfast, who turned his passion for dance into a thriving business.
The audience (both at SERC Bangor Campus and via a live stream) heard Phil discuss how he built a successful dance enterprise and shared his insights from his previous experience as a life coach.
Phil built Social Dance Academy Belfast from the ground up and now hosts a range of popular classes delivering dance tuition for all skill levels, demonstrating that doing something you love is a great foundation for enterprise.
Students joining the event benefited not only from Phil Hunter’s knowledge, but also from the opportunity to network with peers.
Global Entrepreneurship Week ran from November 18-24, and SERC’s Virtual Entrepreneurs Club hosted a series of events to spark the entrepreneurial fire in students and staff. These included live talks, hands-on workshops, and inspirational stories from SERC alumni, offering students a valuable chance to learn from real-world entrepreneurs who began their journey into enterprise from a similar starting point.
In her video interview, Gina Black, a former SERC A-level student who returned years later for the Dream Big course, underscores the value of SERC’s Entrepreneur Club, where she found not just mentorship, but also a community:
“The insights, the connections, even updates on funding opportunities—they were all invaluable. Make the most of the resources SERC offers. It’s a fantastic institution, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without it.”
