Why Study This Course

This traineeship is ideal for someone who has recently left school and obtained their GCSEs, and wanting to learn and to develop skills to pursue a career in retail.  You'll learn about working effectively in a retail team, processing payments, stock replenishment, maintaining health & Safety and security within retail and customer service.

The programme blends theoretical knowledge with practical application, providing hands-on experience through workshops and real-world projects.

Project Based Learning will also be a key feature, where you will explore real-world problems and challenges that have been developed with employers.

Developing your wider skills as well as providing you with the technical skills and knowledge in your chosen area, the traineeship will help you to develop a range of transversal skills that are important for employment including:

  • Digital literacy
Course Overview

The Traineeship programme will allow participants to achieve a full Level 2 qualification and will comprise the following key elements within the Direct Entry Traineeship or Introductory Traineeship:

The course will be delivered on campus 22 hours per week and will consist of:

  • A professional & technical qualification equivalent to a minimum of 3 GCSEs grade C
  • A Transversal Skills qualification
  • Level 2 Essential Skills in numeracy and literacy or GCSE Grades A*-C in English and Maths
  • Work Based Learning
  • A 2-week induction
  • Professional & Technical skills development
  • An end-point assessment
  • A vocational placement (curriculum to confirm duration) organised by the College

 

You will need:

  • a minimum of a Level 1 qualification defined as 4 GCSEs at grades D-G including English and Maths at grade E or higher or equivalent

Suitability will also be determined following an assessment of your current level of literacy and numeracy. If you have not obtained the stated entry grades for maths & English, but your assessment determines that you have the potential to achieve a Level 2 Essential Skill in numeracy and/or literacy over the duration of the NI Traineeship, you may be enrolled as an ‘Introductory’ Trainee, following the same programme as those of the Full NI Traineeship except for Essential Skills.

 

 Modules may include:

  • How to work effectively in a Retail Team
  • How to maintain health and safety and security within Retail
  • Stock Replenishment
  • Customer Service
  • Receiving and storing Goods

Successful completion will allow you to progress to the Level 3 qualification in retail under the apprenticeship programme if you secure employment or, alternatively, to further education at Level 3.
