The Level 2 Construction Plant course is designed to provide individuals with the foundational skills and knowledge required to operate and manage construction plant equipment safely and effectively.
This course is ideal for those starting their careers in construction or those seeking to formalize and enhance their practical experience with plant machinery. Participants will gain hands-on experience with a range of equipment, such as excavators, bulldozers, and forklifts, while also learning about safety standards, maintenance practices, and operational procedures.
By the end of the course, individuals will be equipped to perform essential tasks in the construction industry, ensuring both productivity and safety on site. This qualification is highly valued in the construction sector, offering participants the opportunity to advance their careers in plant operation and construction management.
This 2 year programme will be delivered as a mixture of practical and theory based learning.
Transversal skills will also completed.
Work placement or college simulated placement is required.
Essential skills Literacy and numeracy qualifications will also need completed depending on GCSE results.
You will need:
- 4 GCSEs grade D-G, including grade 'D' in maths and grade 'E' in English or equivalent
Applicants that have not obtained the above grades but can demonstrate an equivalent level of experiential learning may also undertake a NI Traineeship through Accreditation for Prior Experiential Learning (APEL). Suitability will also be determined following an assessment of your current level of literacy and numeracy. If you have not obtained the stated entry grades for maths & English, but your assessment determines that you have the potential to achieve a Level 2 Essential Skill in numeracy and/or literacy over the duration of the NI Traineeship, you may be enrolled as an ‘Introductory’ Trainee, following the same programme as those of the Full NI Traineeship except for Essential Skills.

You will learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment within the construction machinery industry as an Apprentice plant mechanic/technician.
Subjects studied will include:
- Plant maintenance
- Workshop practical skills
- Vehicle inspection
- Basic vehicle electrics
- Workplace health and safety
