GCSE Mathematics

Course Overview

An intensive GCSE Mathematics course. This is a 1 year course. While you will come to class 1 evening a week, you will be required to do additional work outside of the classroom. Independent study is an integral part of this course.

The course will allow you to:

  • develop your knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts;
  • acquire and use problem-solving strategies;
  • select and apply mathematical techniques and methods in mathematical, everyday and real-world situations;
  • reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences, and draw conclusions; and interpret and communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms.

Please apply online and you will be emailed information as to when this will take place, including time/date and room.  Once assessments have been marked, tutors will then be able to confirm via email what your result is and if you are eligible to enrol for the course.

 (Full Time Access students do not pay tuition fee. They will pay the registration only)

Entry Requirements

A keen interest in Mathematics is essential. Prior to enrolment you will undergo an initial assessment.  This assessment will determine you suitability for this course. If the assessment indicates that you need to brush-up your numeracy skills, you will be directed to an Essential Skills class.

Apply on-line for this course then at the end of August and you will receive an invitation to our assessment sessions.

Where will it take me?
Foundation Tier is targeted towards achieving grade C in GCSE Maths. Higher Tier targeted towards achieving grade A*-C in GCSE Maths
How will it make me more employable?
Many job descriptions indicate that a grade C in GCSE Mathematics is an essential qualification for anyone applying for the post.  Some Further and Higher education courses require students to have achieved GCSE Maths prior to entry.
How will I be assessed and given feedback?

There will be two exams at the end of the course - one calculator and one non-calculator.  Higher Tier is a significantly more demanding option, requiring many more topics to be covered in the same time and it will also require more independent study.
