What we do
The Glass Umbrella Theatre Company has continued to enlighten and entertain audiences whilst giving learners the opportunity to work for a real life professional standard theatre company. Corrine Courtney-Lee, Artistic Director, ensured that GUTC has been instrumental in bringing together various disciplines and levels of study, and that work was commissioned not only from within the college, but also from external professional bodies.
The Glass Umbrella Theatre Company was created through collaboration of lecturers and Higher National Diploma students with guidance from business mentor Adrian Power of Power Advertising and Sharon Browne from the Business, Innovation and Development Unit of the College. By working for The Glass Umbrella as part of their studies, Performing Arts students are given essential and desired skills needed for a professional theatre company within the industry. These range from working as a performer, to stage management, marketing and sound or lighting technicians. The Glass Umbrella also offers an Alumni programme and will be inviting previous students back to mentor the theatre company in their area of expertise.
