Zuzia Wisniewska (16) from Ardglass, was thinking about A levels after her GCSEs but changed her mind after she got her results.
Zuzia said, “I came to SERC with my dad the day after I got my results. We got to speak to the Travel & Tourism Lecturer, and I felt the Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism would be a good fit for me.
“I am enjoying the course; it is much better than I expected. I didn’t know anything about SERC, as we were always steered towards A Levels, so it was a nice surprise to discover both the course and college were so good.
“There was another girl from my school on the course, and although everyone else was new, we got to know each other quickly as the class is small. It was easy to settle in as everyone is friendly.”
She added, “College is very different from school. The atmosphere is more mature, and you are treated like an adult.”
Speaking about her plans for the future, Zuzia said, “I have a few ideas of what I would like to do career wise. Currently I am thinking about real estate or cruise line management. The good thing about the travel and tourism course is that it can take you in different directions, from tourism and hospitality to marketing or business, so I am keeping my options open.”
Asked what advice she would give to other students preparing for their GCSEs, Zuzia said, “I would advise everyone to find out all their options before they sit their exams and certainly before they get their results. Apply for different courses and have a plan b in case your first option doesn’t work out or your change your mind.”
