ASOS and SERC

The ASOS Data Engineering Assured Skills Academy was funded by the Department for the Economy (DfE), who helped recruit for the programme along with ASOS. The programme was designed to boost the NI economy by running a funded bespoke skills gap academy for ASOS, allowing the graduating students the opportunity to work full time and gain further skills within ASOS.

The programme consisted of a 10-week curriculum delivered by both SERC staff and outsourced providers in SERC Bangor Campus. Students received training in the areas of Agile Software Development, programming, Microsoft Azure, enhanced business skills, and many more areas related to data engineering. Students were trained in classes both in campus as well as online and had to create and present projects as part of the curriculum.

Jeffrey Smyth, SERC Business Development Manager commented, “It was a pleasure to be involved in this first ASOS academy cohort, as the students all came in with the right attitude. They learned and grew specific digital skills, and that meant they had a strong possibility of being offered a full-time post within ASOS. We all had our part to play from DfE, ASOS, and SERC, to the students making this another great success story of a college and business partnership.”
